This month’s event highlight is the NC Community College System’s Coach Academy, held April 11-13, 2023. Over 160 community college student services personnel attended the three-day event, which included general sessions in the Auditorium, multiple breakout sessions in BB&T Oak Ridge AB and CD, and dining service in the Pre-Function Area.
Academy attendees began their day by checking in at the built-in Registration Desk located in the main lobby. A Traditional Continental Breakfast was served in the Pre-Function Area, and attendees were able to sit, relax, catch up on work emails, or network with colleagues before their first session of the day. They returned to the Pre-Function space for lunch and additional networking.
General sessions in the Auditorium included slide presentations, videos, and online demonstrations. Using wireless hand-held and lapel microphones, presenters and session moderators were able to move freely about the space to engage in discussion with the audience. Participants were also able to use their own laptops and connect to the Internet via The Conference Center’s WiFi service, TitanNet. The BB&T Oak Ridge Room was divided in half to Rooms AB and CD that can seat up to 81 participants at banquet rounds, so that two breakout sessions could be offered. In each of these rooms, presenters and participants had access to the same technology as in the Auditorium.
Attendees, who came from across the state, commented on the convenience of the event location, as well as the ease of entry, parking, and exit. They also remarked on the natural beauty of the venue’s surroundings and how open and airy it felt.
